Not For the Ultra-Squeemish
This is Jaclyn. Here`s a question for you all to mull over. Why do humans have toenails? We no longer need them for grip in trees, or to claw at enemies or prey. They just sit there with no real purpose. If anything, they cause problems! People go through all the effort to pain them and shape them and make them look pretty, but why? How many people look at someone`s feet and say "Wow Jane, thems some nice toenails you gots there!" You have to clip them all the time, or you end up with a plethora of problems, from potentially cutting your shin when you sleep to catching them on your socks to good old fashioned ingrown toenails. And yes, this all comes from personal experience. I was in the habit of keeping them long (partly out of laziness, partly...ya it was all laziness) but believe you me, those days are over. Since I got my second job, I`ve been on my feet 14 hours virtually every day and this has led to (warning, this is about to be too much information) the worst ingrown toenail I've had in my life. I had constant pain in the big toe on my right foot, which is no fun when my shoes are too tight. And the worst part is, I didn`t know what to do about it! I considered going to the doctors, but when I heard the term "lancing" I chickened out. No way is someone sticking a needle in me! So I was left with one option. Soak it, squeeze it ( it was rather infected as well) , and cut the damn things back. So I did. The pain was brutal, but it didn`t last long. And it bled when I cut it (stubbing it 3 times about an hour later probably didn`t help much). But it`s done with. Hopefully. I learned my lesson, that`s for sure. Forget long toenails. Forget toenails in general. I think it`s time evolution kicked in and got rid of them. That is all.
